Is Speed Channel’s Pit Bull Live Talk Show Too Hot for NASCAR?? Femmefan Readers Want to Know!
By Valerie Wood
Racing insiders are strongly hinting that NASCAR is determined to make Pit Bull – the delightfully outspoken and steamily controversial racing show which airs live once a week on Speed Channel – disappear at the end of this season. The problem is that Pit Bull’s panelists tell it like it is and are not shy in airing their opinions about the inequities and issues in the sport. And, there are major troubles that NASCAR officials would like to simply sweep under the rug — such as lower overall ratings, unhappiness over the ‘new’ points system instituted this season, the great lack of diversity in the sport, to name just a few. All topics which have been heatedly debated by the “Pit Bulls.” Other Fox and Speed Channel racing shows exist, as David Poole of the Charlotte Observer succinctly noted a few weeks ago, merely to ‘blow sunshine up NASCAR’s skirt.’ Pit Bull is unique in that the panelists are well-known, professional auto racing writers who have a great deal of insider information and indepth knowledge about the sport, and they have often been critical of many of NASCAR’s less than stellar decisions.
Race teams’ crew members are big fans of the show as well, and Pit Bull has become the “can’t miss” racing show for those in the know. Fans who have caught on to the show realize that they are seeing basically unvarnished truths and constructive criticisms, and are afforded a glimpse into the politics and big bucks behind the sport.
Alright—let’s take a few minutes and tell the people at Speed Channel that we want to keep Pit Bull on the air! The producer for Pit Bull (and Trackside) is Mark Smith. Email Mark at MRSTV@ctc.net. Ask Mark to let Speed Channel’s executives know that we race fans and femmefans love the show, love the inside information, and want it to stay on! Race fans have always been opinionated and outspoken about the sport and their love for it—let’s see if we really can make a difference!
Speed Channel has saturated fans with ho-hum rah-rah shows about racing. If you want to keep a show on the air that tells it like it is, let them know what you think! NASCAR has always claimed to be fan-friendly and fan-oriented. We know they would not exist without our support and our money. To let NASCAR silence Pit Bull without a fight would truly be a crime against the sport we love.
