Aaron and Rhonda give you our take on this week's biggest game of the season to date. Four questions (also known as downs) giving you our opinion on the game.
1st Down- Who is the better quarterback? Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning or New England Patriots' Tom Brady?
Aaron: I know most people will look at Brady's numbers and call this a no-contest but I'm still going to go with Peyton Manning. His body of work is better and he is still the most cerebral quarterback in the game. You can't stop him-you can only hope to contain him. The Panthers found that out the hard way Sunday when they watched Manning overcome a slow start to lead the Colts to score 31 unanswered points in their 31-7 victory. Like the team in general, Manning has just played with a quiet confidence and a precision usually reserved for surgeons. You can have Brady, I'll take Manning any day of the week.
Rhonda: At this point in the season, Tom Brady has shown he is the better quarterback of the two. How can he not be with the receiving corps he has. The addition of Randy Moss was one of the biggest acquisitions in the offseason . Everyone laughed but Patriots coach Bill Belichick and the rest are getting the last laugh. Colts' Peyton Manning has had a good season but nowhere close to Tom Brady's. Brady should shatter Manning's all-time touchdown pass record at the rate he's going.
2nd Down- Who has the better defense-Colts or Patriots?
Aaron: This one is an easier one. It's the Colts hands down. With a healthy Bob Sanders, Indianapolis has been a force on the defensive side of the ball. We saw it last season in the playoffs and we're seeing it again this season-it's like night and day when he plays. The Colts rank second in scoring defense and passing and rank fourth in total defense. If I had to take a defense between the Pats and the Colts, I'd have to go with the Colts as they've actually been tested. The Pats, on the other hand, have not been hugely tested as their offense has been their defense.
Rhonda: Patriots. The Colts have done a good job on defense but have come close a couple times where they almost lost the game. The Patriots wins have been no contests so far. I've got a feeling the Colts' offense is in for a long day on Sunday.
3rd Down- Who is this game more important to?
Aaron: This game is more important to the Pats because they need this in the battle for home field advantage. The Colts have a pretty easy schedule facing them after this and even if they lose to the Pats they can go 15-1 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens their only real challenges. The Pats on the other hand still have the Ravens, New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers on their schedule and just one loss could be the difference between the AFC Championship being in Foxboro or Indianapolis . On the momentum front, I think the game means more to the Pats because outside of the Cowboys they haven't faced anybody yet and a victory over the Colts will validate their performance up to this point. A loss by the Pats will cast some doubt on the team's performance up to this point. Also you have to factor in that the Pats have lost their last three against the Colts and it's clear who needs this game more.
Rhonda: Colts. The Patriots had the Colts number for many years until the last couple. If the Colts lose this one, one has to wonder if last year's Super Bowl win was a fluke or not. Peyton Manning got the perennial monkey off his back with that win, but he hasn't been Mr. Consistency against the Pats.
4th Down- Who is going to win?
Aaron: The Pats have yet to face a team as good as the Colts on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. These teams play each other so often they might as well be in the same division so I don't think there will be many surprises to either team. In the end, I think the Colts' defense will do enough to keep the Pats in check and Manning and company will continue their winning ways against the Pats, final score 35-31.
Rhonda: Patriots. Coach Belichick has one of the most potent offenses in football. Tom Brady with his three Super Bowl rings versus Colts QB Manning's one ring, there's no contest. Whoever wins this game you can expect to see in the Super Bowl in January representing the AFC.
